The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Arrives, Introducing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.

The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will propel Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Cosmic Adventure Drawing from Classic Games

In the vein of the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. On his epic voyage, he will reunite with some familiar faces, such as the Luma, a breakout star from the previous film.

Yet it looks like Mario and his sibling Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers

The film will see the return of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.

A Significant Period for Mario

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 looks set to be a important time for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles officially announced for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
