One police sergeant that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman was granted the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he held a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a road collision in that location in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman knifed," the officer stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage shared by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.

He struck the officer who stumbled and fell to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the ground although being continually attacked with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a safe opportunity, concluding the fight to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide something on my throat now, I got knifed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell suffered two open wounds to his throat and further wounds to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced slash wounds.

Authorities said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel came.

The latest award arrives subsequent to the law enforcement team won internal Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area union branch in spring 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Bravery Award in July 2024.

"The responses of all three officers ultimately saved one another and ensured no civilians suffered any harm."

Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, according to the department.
